Survey Results from the HIA Home Ideas Show 2008
The 2008 HIA Home Ideas Show was a huge success with crowds of home enthusiasts descending on the MCEC to mingle with exhibitors and to shop.
The 2008 visitor and exhibitor survey results, compiled by Micromex. an external research company, confirm a very successful HIA Home Ideas Show with visitor satisfaction rates, spend at show and expected spend post show being up on previous years. Exhibitors have reported very positive results from their participation at the show and this is evident not only from the statistics but also in the fact that 50% of exhibitors re-booked their stands for the 2009 show within 2 months of the 2008 show finishing.
Exhibitor Satisfaction
- 81.6% of exhibitors were ‘satisfied’or ‘very satisfied’ with the organisation
of the show - 63% of respondents ‘agreed’ to ‘strongly
agreed’ that the HIA Home Ideas Show is
very important to their business - 62.4% of exhibitors were satisfied with the quality of visitors
- 78.8% of exhibitors were satisfied with the
total number of visitors at the show
(up 20% from 2007) - 77.9% of exhibitors were satisfied with the number of visitors to their stand
- 69% of exhibitors will be exhibiting at the HIA Home Ideas Show in 2009

- 83% of visitors were satisfied with the Show
- 70% of visitors thought the show was 'good' to 'excellent' value for money

- 71% are likely to attend the Show in 2009

Visitor Behaviours and Purchasing Patterns
- On average visitors spent 3 hours at the HIA Home Ideas Show
- The average amount spent at the show(excl outliers) was $232 ( significantly higher than the 2007 figure of $191)
- Over $10 million spent at show
- 75% saw something they were likely to buy after the show
- 89% have a renovation/home improvement project planned in the next 12 months
- Almost half of respondents who had planned a project int eh next 12 months expected to spend more than $40,000

What a year for the award winning HIA Home Shows.
2007 was a fantastic year for the HIA Home Shows and we would like to thank you for being part of such a successful portfolio of events.
Feedback from the show’s which took place in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide was fantastic from exhibitors, sponsors and visitor alike. Not only did the Shows receive an abundance of visitors, look great and were good fun to be part of, they were also honoured in the exhibition industry’s excellence awards earlier this month.
Melbourne’s HIA Home Ideas Show won the much coveted award of Best Consumer Event of more than 10,000 square metres just pipping last year’s winner, the HIA Sydney Home Show, to the post.
Another dmg world media home event was also honoured with an award. The Adelaide marketing team were celebrating for a second year running with the Adelaide Home and Garden Expo collecting the award for best Visitor Promotion Campaign for a Consumer Exhibition.
All in all it was a great night for dmg world media winning awards in 5 of the 6 categories in which we were nominated and we would like to express our gratitude to you, our exhibitors and partners for working with us to build such fantastic events.
With such a successful year under our belts we really have something to celebrate over the festive season and we look forward to building on our success and producing great events in 2008.
